Every couple should keep their own bank accounts. The shared account should be for taking xxx dollars from each and paying debts. Another account can be set up for savings. I also tell folks to make sure the account is set up so both parties have to sign off on any large withdrawals. It won't stop the other person from draining the account via a check, but at least if G, for example, had her own account she could have put her own money in there for a rainy day.
I don't believe in joint everything. Seems like a recipe for disaster. That does not mean I don't trust my wife.

Marty is not a publisher. It's most likely this will be an e-book. I can say for certain that they will have a hard time finding a real publisher. But if they did, it wouldn't be somebody with any real juice to get units out there into stores.

- Marty hires a 'virtual assistant' to transcribe the mp3s.

In no way to I have any interest in defending Casey, but collectors are notorious for bluffing and making legal threats.
Unfortunately I have experience with this and I am not proud of it. My debt was from very different circumstances and was only about 1% of casey's. However, I have experienced every level of debt collection, including settlements, lawsuits, countersuits for violations,etc. I had 4 pro se cases. However, there were many creditors who had no intention of suing no matter what they said ( technically I could have sued them for making false threats, but that's a little too much IMO).
I don't know CA laws..I have always been told CA Laws are actually EASIER/better for DEBTORS. However in most states, you will have a lot of time and opportunity to settle things before a creditor has a chance to garnish wages ( what wages?), property, or bank accounts. There is a form of due process after all. You actually have to be sued and lose. I have had cases take as long as 2 years. The thing is you actually have to OPEN your mail and file answers, discovery,etc. If Casey really wanted to resolve this he could, without affecting his wife's wages or anything.
Also I think they may be bluffing about what they can do to her UNLESS she actually co-signed. "Community prperty" applies to property, not individual consumer debts...
In fact if they are threatening her and she is not an actual party to the case, Galina could probably sue them ( of course she should have "sued" Casey long ago).

Youmay think that you have exposed Casey ( and you have to a few) but what he is getting is exposure, and the masses are stupid and how quickly they forget.
Think about how many web sites there are now that provide very damaging information ( in that it completely contradicts the version told to the faithful) about the origins of Mormonism, Joseph Smith and gold plates and the early secret practice of polygamy. There is so much historical information out there that contradicts the faithful party line, yet each day close to 800 people convert to Mormonism anyway.

I have maybe the most provocative thing I have had to say to EN on my mind, but I just gotta say it:
1. First off, Casey's trash. We know that, of course, no issue there. He needs to get his comeuppance, and the long arm of the law will do it's work eventually. Not an issue.
2. But Galina. I don't honestly know what her story is. But I will tell you this: if anyone moves to get Cash Call or other creditor pressure off her (or the family's) back, you are doing the wrong thing. Why? Because it is 'enabling' behavior, even though well-intended.
Casey has made it apparent by treating her like everyone else in his life(which is: like crap), that she is just another credit line, another rube, another speed bump on his climb to fame. And still she has not made the minimum necessary moves to illustrate she is aware of the social, legal, and personal predicament she is in, and that the only feasible out is to ditch this scum permanently and quickly.
She may or may not be successful without him, but life with him is destined to be lonely, unfulfilled, disappointing, and fraught with legal scrapes, scams, excuses and lies forever. Even if he somehow pulled out of this current nosedive with three feet to spare, he will still pack it to the turf in on the next outing or the next.
He is the proto-typical "born-loser/degenerate-gambler' psyche. He won't quit until the money he can lay his hands on is all gone. and that means yours, mine, the family's, whoever.
When she is divorced and has filed for B/K, if there is a Galina educational fund, I would gladly thow a buck in the jar. But to give her or family financial aid at this point does two things:
Staves off the inevitable, and also helps jerk-wad get breathing space to work his schtick, hoping to bring her back to the fold for his own purposes (which are not what she would wish they were. He is NPD or worse.)

It seems that this site and its participants were able to unearth some interesting information and create quite a buzz. Utilizing this information, Declan wrote a piece about Casey being in Australia on the run and about ditching Galina. That piece was on the top page at msnbc and led alot of first time viewers to both Iamfacingforeclosure.com as well as this site ( which was mentioned in the article).
I am not faulting anybody, but it was because of this site that the in depth information about Casey bailing on Galina to Australia got into a large news story that has brought alot of attention to Casey and his site.
Most people are smart enough to figure things out with Casey, but all it takes is a small percentage that keep Casey going. ( $1000 from somebody in Canada and a place to stay in Australia and we have a whole new Casey melodrama that has now really hurt his wife.)
Con men just need that little bit of exposure and CONTACTS, and they are in business. It is just my opinion that we are enabling Casey by giving him any energy or thought. Everyone here keeps saying, "don't feed the trolls", but the biggest troll on the internet right now is Casey Serin.

I think more likely the NRU or the local 'investment club' pocketed that fraction of the cashback for finding those sweet cashback deals for Casey.
Actually Rick, there is a market and money to be made for just such a book. If marketed right, it would be a great cautionary tale against "gurus" not just in the RE industry but all the other money making schemes on the infomercial circuit. And more importantly a warning of the pitfalls of leaping headfirst into investing (in real estate, stocks, etc) without doing your homework.
There's potential to do very well in fact.

Casey's family had actually gotten Casey to quit doing something stupid - blogging. With them working on him there was a slim chance that he would actually turn to a productive life. Marty stepped in and acted as pusher to Casey's addiction.
Marty Stewart did an incredibly scummy act by stepping between Casey and his family. To say he is protecting his investment means you don't understand what an investment in Casey means. Try doing a Google search on Nigel Swaby. you will see Marty Stewarts future and it will be there for years.
