Pride In Their Work

ON OCTOBER 6, 1884, SECRETARY OF THE NAVY William E. Chandler signed General Order 325, which began by simply stating: “A college is hereby established for an advanced course of professional study for naval officers, to be known as the Naval War College.” The Naval War College in Newport, RI is gorgeous and enjoys a reputation for excellence. Were that other arms of our Federal government could command our respect for their doing so much as the minimum to protect us from internal threats.

Dear Mr. B T Crowd,

Your sophisticated analysis was forwarded to me via courier. I did suppose as well these ads were being delivered via a misappropriation of IAFF traffic on behalf of Mr. Stewart's AdSense account, and brought this to Google's attention especially, as it relates to their position that "If your account is disabled, you will not be eligible for further participation in the AdSense program." The additional conclusion you present, that this is further evidence of a dissolution between SERCASEY and Mr. Stewart, is well considered.

As always,

The 419 Baiters and Shiver Metimbers stuff is absolutely hilarious. It also provides some insight into the lowest of the low-life scammers and their "technique", if that is what you want to call it. It takes several W-2 evenings to get through all the "letters", but worth the effort for the entertainment value alone.

So what are the odds that he pocketed some kind of cash back at closing deal and had about $20-30K still in a bank account. He had to get the money out of the US because BK and/or lawsuits would cause the bank to freeze his accounts. He takes either that cash there, or goes there to open an account or to buy some SWEET RE. What are the odds?

By the way, I just wanted to let everyone know it's unethical for all of you to continue to clink links nonstop on anywebsite. Just in case anyone forgot. It's a bad idea.

But what did Mark tell the lenders and the others with unsecured loans to Casey?

This is the question. Does eveyone really want to find out the answers? Do they Mark?

Hi 6:20 Anon? You're going to help us out and let us know what is and isn't ethical? Could you go ahead and expand on exactly why clicking the ad links is 'unethical'?

My man Casey is the BEST. I'm CLICKING as much as I can to help him support his lovely wife, who will NEVER leave him. Mos def!

Help me - Click For Casey.

Mark:

Are you going to disclose the referal program and referal fees that Casey would receive by steering people your way.

Weren't you part of pointing Casey towards a pie in the sky, rather than facing reality and getting a stable job to support his wife. It sure seems like you did your part in keeping Casey online and utilizing the blog.

Why didn't you so dutifully inform Caseys lenders of his fraud 3 weeks ago. You know, while you were representing him.....

If I'm genuinely interested in Casey's fascinating and value-added advertsiers, it's not at all unethical to click on them until I really understand their content.

And it helps Casey doesn't it?

Having been offline for a couple of hours, I'm still catching up on the latest news in the CaseySphere, but I'd like to follow up on the IAFF comment moderation someone mentioned above. Under a different user name mid-day PDT I submitted yet another very bland comment regarding playing 6 Degrees of Casey Serin (with website link to Caseypedia), but I have not yet seen it. Can anyone pass moderation on IAFF these days?

Mocha,
If that's really you, please share your secret for getting through the IAFF moderation firewall...

Let's pretend all the talk about clicks and counter clicks are not troll and counter troll. I would love to take the opportunity to respond to the thought above as if it were a real thought, held by a real person, on this planet.

YOU ARE FREAKIN KIDDING, RIGHT?

How many times I click my mouse on solitaire is my own affair, how many times I click to refresh Youtube or a frequently updated blog is fine, but if I noodle around on a click tag, I am unethical?

Look, I happen to think it is unethical for scumbags to try to aggregate info about me (personally identifying or NOT), and also think it is immoral to pay for 'clicks' in the first place. So anyone forwarding the idea that I have some obligation to not only respect that process, but actually avoid anything that would make it less effecient/profitable for the sleases who want to profit off of my information and habits can just kiss my behind.

I think the stinkin' Darpanet (aka WWW) that we paid taxes for ought to be free and noncommercial in it's totality. What do ya think of that, anon idiot tellin' ME what is moral and not?

soem dood,
I agree, but it would seem Google has taken control of the interwebs. When I include a couple stupid Google ads to the bottom of my non-award winning blog, I was quite intrigued with the onslaught of traffic it generated. Therefore, one might assume that many of my favorite blogs that lack Google ads aren't being found.

As far as ethics are concerned, I think the entire concept was lost a few decades ago.

P.S. I'd like to recommend uninstalling your Google toolbar if you happen to have one.

Yeah, I think it is interesting that Google's motto is "Don't be evil" but they did not handle the China censorship and other situations too well, and they sure do have a lot of interest in sniffing my undies... teaming up/buying a lot of shadey companies...

I don't have Google or other tool bar, and generally try to keep things as plain vanilla as possible, use tools only on demand, just for the reason that things you add on tend to be leaky or otherwise likely to misbehave.

Oh, and I am in bombast mode this PM, so I wasn't TOTALLY serious about free bubble-up and Intarwebz-stew for all the hungry children, but I also sure don't feel beholden to help the hand of commerce enslave me without ME gettin' paid, either! "Smell the glove!" (laugh)

Soem dood,
What's sad is when I was doing search engine research during the tech bubble, I loved Google and was so enthusiastic about the engine (when many didn't even know what the hell it was) I was given a T-shirt, cap and sticker among other things I wish I had in my cereal box as a kid;).
However, like just about everything else, Google went downhill a few years later.

Since king friday the 13th just mentioned beans, I'd like to ask folks: Why is it so hard to find fava beans when they're so easy to grow?

IMHO, no. If I remember rightly, M. Singh said as much in the last Haterz-cast, referring to comments that ILMS had posted shortly before the talkcast.

Yup, I was also a early Google adopter (Surfwax was not bad in it's day, too), and turned all my friends onto the joys of web searching. These days, Google just isn't the bad azz chainsaw it really ought to be by now for superusers (even with the 'labs' stuff and other 'command line' style syntax capabilities), it is instead the toy plastic lawn mower popping li'l plastic balls... that is, as long as the Guv'mint sez it's okay to pop...

[sigh] but I digress...

Not sure of the legitimacy of the latest Blunder from Down Under photos but I am sure of two things:

1. Ships are referred to as "She"
2. The same pronoun should apply when speaking of Casey's hands.

Hey BTC:
I haven’t solid conformation where some folks are getting their bent info, but judging by the hate I’m SUDDENLY experiencing its rather telling. (Stop that now Marty or a Bailiff could whack your pee pee, if not Bubba DaBunkmate.)

Anyway, yeah, you got it right. But remember I have come out publicly (here and on the Haterz podcasts -- think Casey’s pod too) several times and indicated there were NEVER any discounts neither intended nor proposed, concerning Casey’s mortgages. (Heelllloooo, knock on computer screen, Trolls get your facts straight. I mean come`on, why would I come out so strong against Marty if I had dirt to hide? Piss-ants.)

Akubi --

I also know a thing or two about search as well. Actually PageRank is a simplified form of Kleinberg's HITS algorithm (since Page's PageRank combines the notion of hubs and authorities), but I digress.

Anyhow, once Google took off it became the target of spammers. PageRank is harder to spam than pure keywords, but is doable. Actually, Google uses 200 factors in computing search results, only one of which is PageRank.
Kinda like the treatment Microsoft gets -- if 90% of the people use Windows, guess which OS is gonna get 90% of the viruses.

The next "big thing" will be "vertical search" -- sites devoted to communities with a common interest. Search will be over the small part of the Net relavent to the community.

oh well, what do I know. I only did my PhD dissertation on this stuff. sigh.

Thanks, king friday the 13th. I was too broke and scattered to continue with grad school so I took an organic approach to data mining. Debt freaks me out hence my Casey fascination.
Speaking of data mining, I just love this Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition discussion thread, but Shelfari doesn’t seem to allow a direct link to it - or Vista ate it:

Artificial Neural Networks are no more related to ADHD than an unlit candle is related to a book in a dark room.

Caleb, It seems to me that you just described a connection between neural networks and ADHD.

caleb posted this comment Monday, March 12 2007
There is no connection between this book and ADHD. If you had a large set of subjects that had an ADHD indicator (e.g. 1/0) along with other predictive features you could train a neural network to try to automatically recognize individuals that are possibly ADHD... but this would be just an application of a general neural network classification algorithm.

About the picture of the wrecked ship with Snowflake standing in front......

I don't know shit about photoshop, but my son makes up for it cuz he knows a LOT, as in works with similar programs for a living. He's traveling in Asia right now so I sent it to him and asked if he'd take a look. He said, at first glance, he's suspicious....mainly because of the photo's composition. When people want to fake a picture, the easy way is to "frame" the shot like this one.

He's going to look at it when he gets somewhere with better software and equipment and get back to me. Dunno...just what he sez.

Dude,

His comments will be welcome.

As I noted before, I had a look with Photoshop myself, and it looks pretty genuine. The effect is a bit unnatural, but it's one I've managed myself several times in similar lighting. The shadows are consistent with what you'd get from a point and shoot with flash at that distance.

It could have been faked, but I doubt it. It would have taken a lot of effort.

Remember what Nigel said the other day. Casey loves to bait us. He seeks out places where he can take pictures that will get a rise out of people. He loves to see us debating this crap. He intentionally frames stuff to be misleading, subject to interpretation, etc. Right now he's watching us discuss this as well as his hotel room. He easily could have turned out the lights and had no reflections. He didn't for a reason.

In his mind, it's all about him and any attention is good attention.
