The Distraction of Mythology

For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.

Mythology distracts us everywhere -- in government as in business, in politics as in economics, in foreign affairs as in domestic affairs. But today I want to particularly consider the myth and reality in our national economy. In recent months many have come to feel, as I do, that the dialog between the parties -- between business and government, between the government and the public -- is clogged by illusion and platitude and fails to reflect the true realities of contemporary American society.

Believe it or not this is a "Casey" post. Think about it. These words spoken by JFK at Yale 11 June 1962 were meant to apply to the gurus, the caseys and anyone who fails to reconcile what they believe with what is.

How come first came in a minute before Rob Dawg's post??

As for the gurus and established thought, seems like most of the gurus avoid the typical path when it comes to earning and investing. The old way, earning through hard work and investing over the longer term, is rejected by the gurus in favor of the quick and easy.

And the Casey's of the world, who find the conventional wisdom too hard and slow for them, turn to the gurus instead.

I'll certainly grant the gurus the tags "persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic", at least for the gullible. But then again, when the SO and I were watching PBS sinking to new depths by hosting a Kiyosaki promo, persuasive wasn't part of that ridiculous presentation.

I guess knowing even the most basic of accounting terms turned the show into a comedy for us. We were laughing so hard at RK's assertions that we forgot that people (unfortunately) actually believe that stuff and sometimes wreck their lives by doing so.

Good work NoVa. You have correctly deciphered the "caseyness" of the topic.

JFK talking about Casey; bit of a stretch.

Casey is about easy money.

What really got me about that guy is when Casey pulled Galina from school to burn CDs to would pay for another round of NRU scaminar classes. On top of that his beg-a-thon funded his trip too. Yeah, he paid Cashcall (or the Haterz paid Cashcall cause they gave him money to pay it) then took off for a week. He told everyone it was an anniversary getaway (lie!)!

But not only that, he "forgot" to send the additional forms that would allow him to make minimal payments for this Cashcall loans!! Obviously he never intended to continue payments on that loan!

He's been scamming since he was a 14 y.o. kid looking for pipedreams in America!!

Yeah, Casey deserves an assbeating for taking advantage of people's money!!

Yep. What would we do without the trolls. Here I am caught spouting BS and only anonytroll has the guts to call me on it. No wonder they love this place so much. Sarcasm off.

Good on for all the regulars that see the connection.

What good does $100,000 do Casey right now?

Just askin'...

If he thinks he can squirrel it away in high yielding investments, well...

Hope you got an Uzbek bank account is all.

One of the pieces of conventional wisdom that I would be curious about testing is

"The best way to deal with Trolls is to ignore them"

I do not know if the trolls we are seeing are Marty's boys or are immigrants from a dying IAFF. If they belong to Marty he does have deep pockets to continue paying them. If they are immigrants from IAFF, they are like crabgrass. They thrived because Casey ignored them and they are likey to continue to thrive here unless we find some roundup.

Marty's deep pockets will be tested. Every deep pocketed businessman eventually figures out when he's throwing good money after bad, and like every other businessman Casey has crossed paths with, Marty will soon discover that he's more trouble than he's worth.

My sources also indicate that the NLL are pursuing action of their own. Even the wall of legal paper might be enough to cause Marty to abandon ship. Good things are coming!

I gets the point! We need to take up a collection to buy Gallon-A a pink suit and a pillbox hat for her RIDE THROUGH TEXAS with Casey. OSWALD is standing by. RUBY waits in the wings. And the MAGIC BULLET is warmed up and buzzin'...

*sigh*

This world went to shit in a lot of ways after JFK was shot.

I hope Oswald (or whoever shot him) is roasting in hell.

I've been watching this train wreck for some time, but now I cannot resist posting for the first time, with the understanding that this blog is read by Casey and his cohorts.

In yesterday's Sacramento Bee there was an interesting story. After an investigation by the FBI, the Sacramento Grand Jury indicted two locals involved in an investment fraud scheme. According to the article, these two creeps purloined investor money, and converted it for their own use. They promised the investors an unrealistic return on the investment and gained investor trust by citing their 'Christian Values'.

Does this sound familiar?
Serin...your number is coming up.

Rob Dawg,
Now you want us to start thinking again? Geeeez. At some point in the Casey carnival I misplaced my thinking cap.
BTW, kids don't forget to play 6 Degrees of Casey Serin this week!

Good day, I L M S here on holiday by the sea. The sand is not as soft beneath my feet as one might imagine, nor are the indigenous people as boisterous as suggested in the pamphlet- however the black pudding was every bit as delectable as the photo suggested. Seeing your American President's quotation, I recalled a letter by Mister Abraham Lincoln that may have some relevance to SERCASEY. It is copied on the reverse side of this note.

As always,
I L M S

~~~~~~~~~
Dear Johnston:--
Your request for eighty dollars, I do not think it best to comply
with now. At the various times when I have helped you a little, you
have said to me, "We can get along very well now," but in a very
short time I find you in the same difficulty again. Now this can
only happen by some defect in your conduct. What that defect is, I
think I know. You are not _lazy_, and still you _are_ an _idler_. I
doubt whether since I saw you, you have done a good whole day's
work, in any one day. You do not very much dislike to work, and
still you do not work much, merely because it does not seem to you
that you could get much for it. This habit of uselessly wasting
time, is the whole difficulty; and it is vastly important to you,
and still more so to your children, that you should break this
habit. It is more important to them, because they have longer to
live, and can keep out of an idle habit before they are in it
easier than they can get out after they are in.
You are now in need of some ready money; and what I propose is,
that you shall go to work, "tooth and nail," for somebody who will
give you money for it. Let father and your boys take charge of
things at home--prepare for a crop, and make the crop; and you go
to work for the best money wages, or in discharge of any debt you
owe, that you can get. And to secure you a fair reward for your
labor, I now promise you that for every dollar you will, between
this and the first of next May, get for your own labor either in
money or in your own indebtedness, I will then give you one other
dollar. By this, if you hire yourself at ten dollars a month, from
me you will get ten more, making twenty dollars a month for your
work. In this, I do not mean you shall go off to St. Louis, or the
lead mines, or the gold mines, in California, but I mean for you to
go at it for the best wages you can get close to home, in Coles
County. Now if you will do this, you will soon be out of debt, and
what is better, you will have a habit that will keep you from
getting in debt again. But if I should now clear you out, next year
you will be just as deep in as ever. You say you would almost give
your place in Heaven for $70 or $80. Then you value your place in
Heaven very cheaply, for I am sure you can with the offer I make
you get the seventy or eighty dollars for four or five months'
work. You say if I furnish you the money you will deed me the land,
and if you don't pay the money back, you will deliver possession--
Nonsense! If you can't now live _with_ the land, how will you then
live without it? You have always been kind to me, and I do not now
mean to be unkind to you. On the contrary, if you will but follow
my advice, you will find it worth more than eight times eighty
dollars to you.
Affectionately your brother,
A. LINCOLN.
Akubi said...
Casey,
If you're reading please note Lincoln's letter I Like M. Singh kindly. Of particular relevance to your current situation:
In this, I do not mean you shall go off to St. Louis, or the lead mines, or the gold mines, in California, but I mean for you to go at it for the best wages you can get close to home, in Coles
County. Now if you will do this, you will soon be out of debt, and
getting in debt again.
