We Come Not To Praise
For reasons I am not privy to we "need" a new post to do character reveals.
Global taxation is complex, but generally speaking, a tourist who incidentally happens to be working on something that is related to a business that is in his/her home country will not be subject to local taxationn. Otherwise, every person who takes a phone call from the office while on vacation overseas is theoretically supposed to pay taxes on some portion of the income.
It's different if you go there for the purpose of working for a local company, or in some cases even just representing an employer located elsewhere.
It gets most complex when the company you work for has a presence in all the countries you're visiting. Once again, short infrequent visits tend to be OK, but if you have a regular presence there (say, one week a month) they're likely to want to consider you a part-time resident. In my experience, you tend to set off red flags if you're visiting for more than 30 days, or more than a week every couple of months.

That's not the case.
Sociopath is an outmoded term. It was replaced, years ago, with Anti-Social Personality Disorder. That, however, was too all-encompassing, and didn't separate the subsets of the disorder too well.
While it's still the only coded choice, psychopathy (which was originally replaced by sociopathy because psychopathy was considered too narrow), has been redefined to apply to the subset of ASPDed people who are more... criminal, in nature, for wont of a better term.

He said publicly in the phone interview he'll be there for more than 30 days....
One final point to ponder. Casey says he's "training" someone to moderate for him.... could this be one of his Aussie fans? If so, it goes further to show that he is working and not on vacation.
There are plenty of people here at EN who are wiser and smarter than me and I defer to their better judgement and research skills. I'm just planting a seed... could be the seed is a dud and watering it is a waste.
A writer sitting in a cafe in Paris for a month or two may be "working" as well, but that doesn't make him owe income taxes.
Same is really true for Casey. He could be doing this work from anywhere. The revenue (if any) is received in the US, from US customers. It would be really tough for the Aussies to make much of a case. Certainly if they decided to kick him out they might use this as an excuse, knowing full well that he wouldn't fight it and would just live with deporatation and "persona non grata" status for the future.
I think that people looking to this angle are barking up the wrong tree. People go to all sorts of places to "escape and get things done" all the time. The location is incidental to the work. Not worth pursuing.

I still would respectfully disagree. I think he is fully aware of his actions and actually does feel the emotions involved. I just think he is so self-diluted in his fantasy-world where he is a true entrepaneur, he makes the conscious choice to persevere. I would label it more to the likes of a compulsive gambler. They are quite aware of the repercussions of their actions yet still feel the "urge", so to speak, to gamble. The same can be said for a drug addict.
Honestly, if he was a true, honest to goodness sociopath (psychopath, whatever), he would have left his wife on his own accord without a thought. A lack of empathy would dictate that sort of conduct.
I just don't see that as being "Casey". He does not come across as the Patrick Bateman type of individual. My albeit purely speculative appraisal is that he does feel emotions (and empathy) but lacks the mental acumen to avoid his continued follies. Like someone who has had their Pavlovian response disabled, Casey just stumbles forward following each shiny object placed before him. Not the actions of a sociopath. If he came on a business ETA, then he infact could be doing work for another company in Australia, and still stay legal. (i.e. business person comes here for a meeting, or tradeshow, or to research setting up a company etc.)

I decided to look into the definitions of various different types of psychological disorders.
I came across anti-social personality disorder and here are the symptoms:

Same is really true for Casey. He could be doing this work from anywhere. The revenue (if any) is received in the US, from US customers. It would be really tough for the Aussies to make much of a case. Certainly if they decided to kick him out they might use this as an excuse, knowing full well that he wouldn't fight it and would just live with deporatation and "persona non grata" status for the future.
I think that people looking to this angle are barking up the wrong tree. People go to all sorts of places to "escape and get things done" all the time. The location is incidental to the work. Not worth pursuing.

I still would respectfully disagree. I think he is fully aware of his actions and actually does feel the emotions involved. I just think he is so self-diluted in his fantasy-world where he is a true entrepaneur, he makes the conscious choice to persevere. I would label it more to the likes of a compulsive gambler. They are quite aware of the repercussions of their actions yet still feel the "urge", so to speak, to gamble. The same can be said for a drug addict.
Honestly, if he was a true, honest to goodness sociopath (psychopath, whatever), he would have left his wife on his own accord without a thought. A lack of empathy would dictate that sort of conduct.
I just don't see that as being "Casey". He does not come across as the Patrick Bateman type of individual. My albeit purely speculative appraisal is that he does feel emotions (and empathy) but lacks the mental acumen to avoid his continued follies. Like someone who has had their Pavlovian response disabled, Casey just stumbles forward following each shiny object placed before him. Not the actions of a sociopath. More like the actions of a dimwit.

I came across anti-social personality disorder and here are the symptoms:

I wish this "they are all gypsies" guy would lay off. Serin might be many things including a criminal and potential somethingopath, but he is clearly not of gypsy stock. Gypsies are a specific racial group, and Russians are NOT gypsies. Russians are white, gypsies are non-white -- originally from India. Russians and most Europeans have no love for gypsies and have in fact pushed them out or liquidated them at every opportunity, as they are seen as a blight. Serin has his criminal / emotional issues but they are his as an individual. He would not be tolerated even in his home country.

When I had my pyschology classes (and direct experience with mental institutions),
sociopath - relatively incapable of identifying with the emotions of others but capable of working within the legal restrictions on behavior versus
